From our journal

The romance of the brocante.

Twice a year we travel through France — from the marchés aux puces of Saint-Ouen to the antique fairs of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and the village shops and ateliers in between — in search of the beautiful and the improbable. Some pieces are centuries old; others are simply wonderfully French and made today. Each is chosen with one question in mind: would we live with it ourselves?

Paris, along the Seine

Where old prints wait for new homes.

The bouquinistes have kept watch over the Seine for four centuries — their green stalls a moveable library of forgotten maps, botanical plates, and yellowed love letters. We stop here on every trip, and a little of that quiet poetry finds its way into every shipment.
